The Bachelor's degree programme in Administrative Economics, which has a stronger economic orientation, links economic thinking to legal, political and social science knowledge through a problem-solving approach. The citizen-oriented (or, rather, customer-oriented) service provider serves as an overall concept here.
Foundation Phase
1st – 3rd Semester – Professional and Methodological Foundations
The first three semesters each comprise 24 semester hours, in which basic content-related knowledge from the fields of Law, Business Studies, Administrative and Social Sciences is imparted, with basic methodological knowledge and skills from the fields of Accounting, Social Research and Applied Psychology being practised and language skills developed. All modules are examined at the end of the respective semester.
Major Phase
4th Semester – Work Placement Semester
Students complete a three-month work placement in a local government institution or state administrative institution. Students also take a work placement seminar at the university.
5th – 6th Semester – Technical Specialisation
The fifth and sixth semesters offer interesting elective and specialisation opportunities, focusing on economic problem-solving competency in public sector modernisation processes. On the one hand, the focus is on issues relating to the privatisation of public services and outsourcing ("lean state"); on the other hand, the re-organisation of task completion by public institutions ("Internal Modernisation") is to the fore. The core question is: How can efficiency in the public sector be increased?
Economic problem-solving skills are fostered in the following six specialisations, two of which must be selected:
* Controlling
* Financial Management
* Marketing
* Human Resource Management
* Quality Assurance
* Project Management
Two-semester courses which ensure that complex practice-related project work can be undertaken constitute a defining feature. Thus, a practical problem is tackled using scientific methods and approaches and proposed solutions developed in collaboration with an institution providing a work placement. To this end, the Department of Public Management enters into cooperation agreements with one or more work placement partners in administrative institutions, public companies, the public sector or private companies.
The economic focus of this degree programme is integrated into legal and administrative science courses. Modern higher education didactic teaching and learning methods make a varied course of studies possible.
The seventh semester not only contains the work placement, but is also used to write a Bachelor’s thesis. The "Bachelor of Arts" degree is awarded as the final certificate. A career qualification for the upper level of the civil service has been applied for.
Main themes of the two career-oriented degree programmes
* Legal and organisational framework of administrative acts
* Resource provision and management
* Organisation and management of the activity output of administrative institutions and public service providers
* Interaction with the addressees of administrative acts
* Instrumental subjects (including languages)
