The Bachelor's degree programme in Business Administration offers highly motivated students a study programme leading to a qualification which enables entry to business after seven semesters. The Business Administration degree programme at Hochschule Harz is designed to enable students to acquire the knowledge and methods with which to solve practical problems in economic and administrative functional areas. Graduates are given the wherewithal to support management in business areas and gradually take over management tasks in business or become freelancers.
Hardly any other degree programme provides its graduates with as diverse career opportunities as Business Administration. Such career opportunities include management and operational areas of responsibility in commerce, the capital and consumer goods industry as well as the services sector as a controller, financial, logistics and marketing manager, tax consultant and public auditor, corporate consultant, HR and project manager.
Above all, basic knowledge of business studies is taught during the first three semesters of the study programme. In the fifth and sixth semesters, students choose a specific professional field orientation and acquire in-depth knowledge in this particular field. Students also learn key skills such as communication and methodological competency.
The degree programme is complemented by intensive language training and extensive project work. The seventh semester concludes the course of studies with a work placement in a company, either at home or abroad, the Bachelor's thesis and colloquium.
1st – 3rd Semester
During the first three semesters, students receive full training in the basic subjects of Business Administration, e.g. accounting, law, taxation, economics, data processing and mathematics.
Instrumental skills such as work, learning and presentation techniques and EDP knowledge are also taught.
The development of English-speaking skills is also a key aspect of the Business Administration programme. English courses critical for examinations are scheduled from the third to the sixth semester. Propaedeutic courses in English may already be attended before the third semester.
4th Semester
The knowledge acquired in the first three semesters can be consolidated in a work placement of at least 16 weeks' duration in the fourth semester. Alternatively, it is also possible to complete a semester abroad at a foreign partner university.
5th – 6th Semester
The fifth and sixth semesters focus on the students' professional field orientation, developing independent applied working practices through project work and enhancing students' English language skills. Other languages may be chosen as an additional option.
Three professional field orientations must be taken from the current range of professional field orientations which have a Business Administration focus.
The following professional field orientations are currently being offered as part of the Business Administration degree programme:
* Financial Statements
* Cost Accounting
* Controlling
* Financial Risk Management
* B2B
* Consumer Goods Marketing
* Market Research
* Human Resources
* Change Management
* Planning and Organisation
* Logistics Management
* Commercial Law
* Taxes and Auditing
* International Management
A compulsory elective course enables students to expand their knowledge, depending on their personal preference. Specialist courses in the areas of economics and corporate management are also provided. The project-based course, during which students become familiar with project management and handle practice-related projects independently, is another key aspect. The combination of various teaching modules and the work placement provide students with an optimum entry into professional life.
7th Semester
In the seventh semester, students gain practical experience during a work placement of at least 12 weeks, either at home or abroad.
The Bachelor's thesis, which is usually based on the experience gained during this practical component, is presented as part of the Bachelor's colloquium.
