Business Informatics specialists solve data processing problems in business and administration. This interdisciplinary study programme prepares the students for work as intermediaries between two worlds: the world of the user and the world of the developer of information technology. This dual qualification makes them sought-after experts.
This multi-faceted interdisciplinary degree programme offers not only the core areas of Computer Science, but also subjects from the areas of Business Administration or Macroeconomics, such as Controlling, Internet Law and Media Marketing. Additionally, Information Management, Information Modelling and Standard Software cover future-oriented requirements profiles for Business Information Specialists. Beyond specialised competencies required in modern work structures, students are also taught key qualifications such as social skills, problem-solving skills, teamwork skills, results presentation and foreign language skills through focused work in small seminars and project groups.
During the first semester, the Business Informatics programme imparts the basic knowledge required for developing business information systems. The "Introduction to Business Informatics" course provides an overview of the core contents of this degree programme. Additional courses cover the development of business applications. This includes a larger block of programming or modelling of business processes on which the applications are based. Courses pertaining to networks and operating systems round off this area.
The fourth and fifth semesters consolidate this knowledge in core areas of application development and information systems. Professional field orientations enable alternative immersion in different areas and implementation of what has been learnt in the course of practical work, also in cooperation with regional firms. The professional field orientations offered are aligned with current topics of information technology, for example in the areas of standard software using SAP R/3.
The sixth semester provides scope for students to apply what they have learned during a work placement an to complete a Bachelor thesis.
