The Computer Science degree programme always imparts sound theoretical knowledge in connection with practical skills and knowledge. In addition to lectures, the focus here is on exercises and teamwork.
During the first semesters, the study programme includes Mathematics, Computer Science and related specialisms, as well as English, Business Administration, Media Design and Competency. Advanced-level courses subsequently build on this core programme. They enable students to extend and deepen their knowledge in the specialised work areas, thereby providing comprehensive insights into future-oriented specialisations in Computer Science.
Six semesters of a study programme that is aligned with real life and work environments is followed by a practical semester, in which students work independently on a complex IT topic in an industrial or service company, a research institute or government agency. This often produces the topic for the Bachelor thesis that concludes the degree programme and can provide a stepping stone to a career.
The Computer Science degree programme is designed so as to offer graduates a broad range of options for subsequent professional activity. Especially the areas of industry and IT services are potential employers, often with very attractive job opportunities. Computer Science graduates at Hochschule Harz, however, are also professionally active in research and development or in the public sector.
The first three semesters of the Bachelor degree programme serve to impart fundamental knowledge and practical skills in the areas of Mathematics, Computer Science, English, Business Administration and special IT-related subjects. In the following semesters, students learn special skills, geared to current requirements of the national and international labour market. Algorithms, Object-Oriented Programming, Distributed Systems, Web Services, IT-Security and other highly topical subjects are all part of the programme, in addition to the elective specialisations: Intelligent Programming, Data Management, Multimedia, Software Technology, Geographical Information Systems and Image Processing, Government Component Development or Distributed Automation Systems.
Practical, team-oriented work based on broad knowledge is the main maxim of this degree programme.
The diverse choices create a multi-faceted image, providing students with a solid basis from which to pick their respective specialisations in order to qualify for a career as a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) after six study and one work placement semesters.
