The European influences which govern almost all fields of law today have important consequences for virtually all spheres of life and hence also have an impact on administrative acts. The accession of a series of Central and Eastern European countries requires, particularly in Eastern Germany, close collaboration with the institutions and bodies of the EU, other European institutions and the administrative institutions of neighbouring countries.
Therefore, those employed in administration, but also increasingly in the public sector and in private companies must familiarise themselves with the operating principle and basics of the EU as well as the relationship between community and national law. The European Administrative Management degree programme closes a gap in educational provision for the public sector, which until now was almost exclusively focused on national matters.
Foundation Phase
The foundation phase comprises three specialized theoretical semesters with courses in European Law and Politics, Law, Economics, Social Sciences and basic interdisciplinary methodological qualifications. Two foreign languages are a compulsory component. The first foreign language is English, while students can choose between French, Russian and Spanish as the second foreign language.
Major Phase
The major phase begins with an integrated one-year stay abroad, which includes both a work placement of at least three months' duration and a specialist theoretical semester at a foreign university. Students can choose whether to begin the fourth semester with the specialist theoretical semester or first complete a work placement.
The sixth semester, which has an interdisciplinary focus, offers elective and specialisation options. Business games and the acquisition of presentation skills not only make for an interesting curriculum, but also allow students to acquire key qualifications, in particular, which are necessary for their future career.
Two options must be chosen from the four following specialisations:
* Energy and Environment
* European Processes of Integration
* EU Structural and Competition Policy
* European Commercial Law
The seventh semester is a combined work placement and Bachelor's semester. This 13-week work placement can also be completed at home.
