The innovative concept of this degree programme lies in its combining a scientific university study programme with vocational training in a recognised occupation requiring formal vocational training.
Leveraging the synergies between the two courses of education leads to two fully-fledged degrees, the Bachelor of Engineering and the vocational qualification of Mechatronics Engineer, in only four-and-a-half years.
The companies involved select the applicants. From the start, there is a close connection between company and student, based upon articles of apprenticeship.
In the initial stages of the degree programme, the first 13 or 14 months, education is focused on theoretical and practical aspects of occupational education. Starting with the third semester, students are entirely integrated into the study process at Hochschule Harz. The practical occupational education is continued during the lecture-free periods until the final examination is taken at the IHK Magdeburg in the seventh semester.
After this, students perform engineering activities during the lecture-free periods in order to gain relevant practical experience for a career start. It is also possible to continue the study programme in a Master Degree Programme or even through to a doctorate.
In this Bachelor Degree Programme, the students meet requirements of the core areas of Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Automation Systems. In addition, there are accompanying subjects such as Computer Science and Communication Technology that are indispensable for career development. During the main course of studies, the students are able to focus more on either Automation Systems or Electronic Systems, depending on their personal preference.
Engineers for Mechatronics Automation Systems assume application-oriented tasks during the development and project planning of mechatronic systems for automation plants, laboratory technology and test systems. They plan, calculate and produce intelligently cooperating mechanical, electronic and information technology components and ensure that these interact smoothly at all levels. They develop the corresponding hardware and software for this. When finding solutions for their work objectives, they must also consider business contexts and statutory provisions.
